"Second time I've been out w/ Capt Martin. Super helpful guide that really knows the water. Boat has a ton of room and can get in pretty skinny water for the size. He put us on the sheepshead and trout this time, and last time we wore out the reds. Highly recommend booking with him for your next charter!" - Neil
Sheepshead: These striped bandits are a favorite among local anglers for their tasty meat and challenging nature. Don't let their cute name fool you – sheepshead are tough fighters with sharp teeth and a knack for stealing bait. They love hanging around structure like pilings and oyster beds. The best time to target them is during the cooler months, especially in early spring when they gather to spawn. Sheepshead require finesse and patience to catch, but landing one of these buck-toothed beauties is always rewarding.
Sea Trout: Also known as speckled trout, these speckled beauties are a staple of inshore fishing. They're known for their delicate flavor and the exciting topwater strikes they often provide. Sea trout can be found year-round, but the fishing really heats up in the fall when they start to school up. We'll likely target them around grass flats, deeper holes, and under docks. There's nothing quite like the thrill of a sea trout smashing a topwater lure at dawn!
Redfish: The bulldogs of the flats, redfish (also called red drum) are prized for their strong fights and copper-colored scales. These fish can be found in various habitats, from shallow grass flats to deeper channels. One of the most exciting ways to catch them is sight-fishing in clear, shallow water where you can see them tailing as they root for crabs in the bottom. Redfish are available year-round, but the fall "bull red" run, when large breeding fish move inshore, is a can't-miss event for many anglers.
This morning trip for four is your ticket to a fantastic day on the water. Whether you're looking to fill the cooler with tasty fillets or just want to enjoy some quality time with friends and family, this trip delivers. Our captain's local knowledge and passion for fishing ensure you'll not only catch fish but also learn something new about the area and its marine life. With comfortable boats, top-notch gear, and plenty of fish-filled spots to explore, you're in for a treat. Redfish are shallow-water masters, often found tailing in 1-4 feet of water. Look for 'em around oyster reefs, grass flats, and muddy bottoms. Most are in the 28-33 inch range, but they can grow over 45 inches and 50 pounds. Spring and fall are prime seasons when they're actively feeding. Redfish give a great fight and taste delicious - mild and sweet. They'll hit almost anything when hungry, from tiny flies to big topwaters. For a real thrill, sight-cast to tailing reds in skinny water. That black spot near the tail? It's not just for looks - it fools predators into attacking the wrong end. Local tip: On calm days, cruise the flats and look for their copper-colored backs breaking the surface. Cast well ahead of them and work your lure slowly across their path.
Sea trout are silver torpedoes that love to hit lures. Most run 14-24 inches, but 40-pounders turn up now and then. Look for 'em in grass flats and shallow waters at night, or troll the edges slowly. They school up in deeper water come winter. These fish move between salt and fresh to spawn, so you might catch 'em in estuaries or rivers depending on the season. Sea trout put up a decent fight and make for some fine eating with their mild, flaky meat. Just don't overcook it, or you'll end up with mush. They're suckers for artificial lures - try jerk baits, topwater plugs, or plastic shrimp. One trick that works well: use a light leader. These fish have good eyesight and can be line-shy in clear water.
Sheepshead are convict-striped fighters that'll give you a run for your money. You'll find 'em hugging structures like docks, bridges, and reefs - anywhere barnacles grow. Most run 1-8 pounds, but 20-pounders aren't unheard of. Spring's prime time as they gather to spawn. Bring your A-game, 'cause these fish are notorious bait thieves with those weird human-like teeth. They'll nibble your hook clean if you're not careful. Light tackle works best. Let your bait hit bottom, then slowly bring it up to find where they're suspended. When you feel that telltale nibble, set the hook hard. The fight's worth it, and so is the table fare - sweet white meat that's mighty tasty. Pro tip: Scrape some barnacles off the pilings to chum 'em up. Just check local regs first.
